Robotics learning roadmaps
A tutorial teaches one thing. A learning roadmap sequences several into a path, so you learn a whole skill—motor control, feedback control—the right way, in the right order. Follow one, then apply it in a project.

Grasping and End Effectors: Actually Pick It Up
You can choose an end effector type, size the grip force including acceleration, check force closure, and say before printing whether any servo command will work.
Follow the path Intermediate · 14 stepsHolonomic Drive: Move Sideways Without Turning
You can size, wire, code and debug a four-wheel holonomic drivetrain, and say honestly what it costs you in traction and in position accuracy.
Follow the path Beginner · 13 stepsMotor Control for Robots: A Learning Roadmap
Drive two motors with precise speed and direction, read how far they have turned, and steer a differential-drive robot.
Follow the path Intermediate · 11 stepsPath Following for Robots: A Learning Roadmap
Hand a robot a list of waypoints and have it drive them, and be able to say in metres how well it did.
Follow the path Advanced · 9 stepsPath Planning and Mapping: Flood Fill to SLAM
You can plan a route through a known grid, replan as new obstacles appear, and explain how a robot builds the map it is planning on.
Follow the path Intermediate · 7 stepsPID Control for Robots: A Learning Roadmap
Turn a noisy measurement into a smooth error signal and tune a stable PID controller that tracks without oscillating.
Follow the path Intermediate · 15 stepsPrecision Motion With Steppers: A Learning Roadmap
You can specify, wire, tune and calibrate an open-loop stepper axis, and diagnose the difference between losing steps, backlash and a wrong scale factor.

You can make a robot sense obstacles and decide where to go on its own—no map, just clean sensing and a behaviour loop.
Follow the path Intermediate · 5 stepsRobot Arm Kinematics: From Servo PWM to Inverse Kinematics
You can make a servo arm reach a point you choose—understanding forward and inverse kinematics, the reachable workspace, and singularities before you touch hardware.
Follow the path Beginner · 9 stepsRobot Electronics Foundations: A Learning Roadmap
Power a robot that stays up under load, put several sensors on one I²C bus, and write a loop that reads them all without ever blocking.
Follow the path Advanced · 5 stepsROS 2 Foundations: Nodes, Frames, and Robot Vision
You can structure a robot as ROS 2 nodes, choose topics against services and actions correctly, and place a camera's observations in the robot's frame tree.
Follow the pathHow a roadmap differs from a tutorial
A tutorial answers one question and ends. A roadmap sequences a dozen of them into the order that actually works, and states the dependencies between them — you cannot tune a controller before you can drive a motor, and you cannot plan a path before you have a grid to plan across. Each node unlocks once its prerequisites are done, so the path refuses to let you start in the middle and get stuck for reasons nobody explained.
Which one to start with
If you have never built a robot, start with motor control. Everything else on this page assumes a robot whose wheels go where you tell them, and it is also the path most likely to save you a burnt-out driver board.
If your robot moves but moves badly — weaving down a line, overshooting a turn — go toPID control. If it moves well but bumps into things, reactive navigation is the one. Reach forpath planning and mapping only once reacting is genuinely not enough, because holding a map costs far more than reacting to what is in front of you.
Roadmaps and projects
A roadmap teaches a skill; a project builds a robot. Most projects pull one or two roadmaps in as nodes of their own tech tree, so following a path here is never wasted work — it is the same material, reached from the other direction. Your progress is stored on this device, so leaving and coming back keeps your place.
